It is in very good condition and I believe was indeed used

Perfect on a vanity or dresser for holding jewelry and the like

often commanding many hundreds of dollars

with one pen mark on the textile detailed in one of the photos and some wear to the dowel

The handwritten text below the drawing is a (translated) excerpt from a verse of "Auld Lang Syne" a Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns in 1788:

I at least find it an extraordinary evocative image, all the more so for the "Corners, Tuesday Aug." written in pencil at the bottom, and really want to know the whole story of this man's life. I assume he is training a dog (?) to jump through the hoop he holds so tightly in one hand, with his other hand so perfectly poised it kills me. And then the whole thing taking place over a gnarly barbed
