I had the work of Pearl Blauvelt on my mind when I spotted it sold to me by a rare book seller who knew nothing about it and the intensity and changing directionality of the pencil lines animating every inch of the horse, and rider, too, reminded me of some of Blauvelt's drawings. I don't believe it is, as Blauvelts faces were quite different, but this is definitely of a different ilk than a schoolgirl horse drawing:
