I'd think 19th century for sure

It looks to me that there are at least four different hardwoods used and they are all pretty spectacular

The funnel is perfectly balanced and the narrow end flush

this is one of two wonderful 1991 cutout silhouette self-portraits

and a lightly scratched patch of gridded lines on the other with some more numbers above

Though not quite as fine as the American Crayon Company's "Waltham" chalk, sold for just "a trifle more" as noted on one side of the box, it's pretty fabulous chalk definitely incentive to find an old slate chalkboard if one doesn't have on already. I especially love the gently tapering shape with rounded tip
