The leather sweatband is ink stamped with a Broad Arrow and a 1914 date

The flag remains firmly stitched to the jacket and is constructed of thicker leather than the other patches

After a cursory cleaning it was found that there was some stamped printing on the top side of the brass grip which we read as:-

from 8 July 1963 – 7 November 1972 and from 15 December 1972 – 28 January 1973

The award itself is maker marked on the hanger ring with Prsidialkanzlei des Fhrers Lieferant (Presidential Chancellery Supplier) number 40 on the hanger ring, which represents maker Berg & Nolte of Ldenscheid, a city with a very large garment accessories industry.
