It has an interesting surface pattern that leads us to believe it is made from some type of crucible laminated steel similar to "wootz" or "Damascus" steel

M4 IMPERIAL on the blade side of hand guard for the desirable maker, Imperial Knife Co. of Rhode Island. To the left of this is the U. S. Ordnance "Flaming Bomb". The blade is in good condition, showing light runner wear and no sharpening, with nearly all of the original finish still
