This is the "traditional" fighting sword of ancient India with examples going back 400 500 years. It is known as a TULWAR and this particular example is particularly interesting in that it is shows traces of GOLD inlay on the hilt, particularly on the pommel and grip. The areas where the gold used to be are also discernible. The characteristic hilt has the tradition "disc" on the pommel and this example also has a
