Quite a lot of character packed into this guy through quite an expressive  application and sculpting of lots of bits of clay

and I'd be inclined to display it standing up

Each square measures about 8 1/2" x 8 1/2"

clear and very readable

It holds them on very well--this bear is very sturdy and all the legs move smoothly

Bertram Hartman (18821960), which I purchased from an artist dealer in Cambridge, MA. This one with no year to the date (late 1940s I believe) but is stamped B. Hartman, R. Castellane Gallery. (The Richard Castellane gallery acquired the Estate Collection of Hartmann around 1960, from the former Rabin & Krueger Gallery Newark, New Jersey. ) I think it is
