and the top I think may be painted papier mache (it is hard but shows a few dings

it's glazed a terrific mottled peachy-orange

so it is possible this was a fold out but I am not sure

It was made to hang (the hanging loop is original to it), such that gravity forces the slider down to rest on top of the lower ball, but when laid on its side it can be positioned however one likes.
