Each example here features two cut paper pieces with braided or twisted hair samples stitched onto sky blue paper, with the initials of the friends or family members from whence they came written in pencil, most often inside of hearts! I would guess all of these came from one album, kept by a young girl, with one example noting the year: 1862. Kind of amazing how well they endured from the Civil War era until
