and a little cracking (perhaps a repair

seemingly product of having just enough purple velvet scrap to make it around the top edge of the mesh

Vulgar Fractions Math Notebook with 1818 Letter from Boston clapper Of course found in MaineI know these were found together at a New England estate by the dealer I purchased them from, so I'm keeping them as such, with the letter dated 1818, and I do believe the notebook dating to about then. For me the appeal is first and foremost the beautifully ink lettered, evocative and resonant phrase "Vulgar Fractions," animated with rich red watercolor. And then of course I'm always a sucker with these antique math mensuration notebooks in general,
