I'm pretty certain this old spear-like carving had no other purpose that giving pleasure to its maker

the year of its making I believe

which have lost most of its black paint

making one think this one was made to house something fancy

Against a charcoaled background she emerges rather like a vision, with this giant hat, I guess it is, reading a bit like a halo, and or a crown! On the reverse we learn that the postcard was sent to a Mrs. Jane Holt from "Aunt Selina", with the card "penciled and drawn by Eddie himself"! Great. 3 1 2" x
