My guess is that it dates from the 40s or early 50s and was once part of a longer train

and maybe once part of a whirligig

akin to a whimsy as well as to an interlocking wooden puzzle

Very rich tonally, dense with detail, very intimate feeling, and what a beautiful child. 5 1 4" x 4 1 4" overall and in good antique condition, c. 1900 or so I believe.
