and it reminded me of how infrequently I find modern sculpture of a substantial scale that I really like when I am out hunting for things

Antique c. 1880s Miniature Sampler with Out of Order Alphabet! travel kit making them a real joyOh, a sampler made completely after my own heart, with the alphabet arranged entirely according to the whim of the girl who made it! (Why shouldn't the Q follow the G and precede the P and then the B?) This makes me completely and totally happy. Someone more knowledgable than I dates it to about 1880s, and deciphered the name of the genius who made it as G. B. Chambers, spelled out on the last line, though there is a bit of thread loss on the G and B.
