This cotton HBT (Herring Bone Twill) Camouflage pattern jacket was issued to Marines at the end of WWII and during the Korean war. This pattern was seen as an improvement over the one piece "jungle" coveralls, which lacking a drop seat, made "relieving yourself" difficult in combat situations.
