This is a very nice Federal 1839 Pattern Brass Belt Plate Buckle, made from the standard lead filled cast brass. It had a lovely patina on the front side, and has early wartime pattern brass "Puppy Paw" style attachment studs on the reverse. The plate measures measures approximately 3 3 8 x 2 1 8. The condition is very good and was not excavated (not dug up). This die stuck specimen has the large raised letters "US"
