This is a great example of early 20th century trench art, taking surplus obsolete military items, and converting them into something useful as well as decorative. These started life as 1st pattern bayonet scabbards, for the U. S. M1892 bayonet, made for the Springfield Model 189299 Krag Jrgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. The scabbards are both steel, and are fitted with the 1st pattern
