and a little along the left edge of the paint

A perfect self declaration of its own materiality

It seems like quite an old one to me

but I did recently find this and a couple of others by the same maker

Silver Painted Old STRING Tin (with twine inside) plate Some staining along the spineI'm not quite sure when this tin was painted silver and labeled with tall thin hand painted white letters reading "string," but it looks as if a good many years ago, and certainly seems product of a great depression sensibility, when string saving became a habit. The paper label still stretched across the bottom of the tin suggests it's quite an old one, I believe a tobacco tin. Found in Maine, with twine and a pencil inside, as seems just right. A
