Footnote: LeRoy Herbert Smith was born on August 17, 1895 in Ernestown, Ontario, near Kingston, the son of Elias Smith and Marietta Smith. According to information gathered in 1920, he enlisted in the 146th Infantry Regiment but was transferred to the 59th Infantry
