Constructed of blackened magnetic iron, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a leftward facing profile of Grand Duke Friedrich August, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of FR TREUE DIENSTE IM WELTKRIEGE (FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WORLD WAR), unmarked, measuring 28. 03 mm (w)
