A pointed cross constructed of silver, the obverse centre bears a gilt lion passant (the emblem of the South African Navy) on a navy blue enamel, the reverse bears the pre 1994 South African coat of arms, the 6 oclock arm engraved with the decoration number 35, suspension bar is attached to cross, marked SILVER on reverse, measuring 45. 3 mm (w) x 59. 77 mm (h), weighing 35. 2 g, with Navy bar with embossed Protea
